Today was a day filled with a bunch of new releases and after a long time wait of over 400 days, the Mac mini has finally received a refresh. Apple offers three different models now and the important thing to note is that the price for the base model has been downgraded to $599, which is what many people wanted. The base model features a 2.3ghz Core i5 Dual Core processor with 2GB Ram and 500gb Hard Drive space, along with Mac OS X Lion and Intel HD 3000 graphics. The RAM has stayed the same but the bump in hard drive and processor has still managed to bring the price down. The 2nd Mac mini model features a 2.5ghz dual core Intel Core i5 chipset with 4gb RAM and 500gb Hard drive and a AMD Radeon HD6630m. This model is $799.The server model on the other hand features a 2.0ghz Quad Core Intel Core i7 processor with 4gb RAM and 1TB (two 500gb) drives, it features an Intel HD 3000 GPU and ships for $999. All the Mac mini's throughout the line
up now feature a Thunderbolt port. Mac minis have also added option for an SSD (256gb) for $600...
These prices pretty much match towards what the Mac mini line up had offered back in 2009, and this time around I would say it was worth the wait and these Mini's look like very good performers. Design for the 2011 Mac mini remains the same, the only difference is the fact that Apple has done away with a slot loading drive on all the models.
Apple's brand new Mac mini starts at $599

Apple have also managed to update the Macbook Air line up, click

But it is also important to note that since the introduction of the Macbook back in 2006, Apple have not decided to update it this time around, but rather discontinue it.. so another Macintosh bites the dust.
Do you think this is fast enough to run final cut pro?
ReplyDeleteThis sounds fast enough to run Final Cut Pro, rendering times might be longer than those quad core processors. But it should run just fine. :)
